A graduate of the Guildford School of Photography, Julia Hedgecoe was employed first by The Observer, soon moving to the freelance world and working regularly for The Daily Telegraph as well as other magazines and newspapers.

Her photographs of patchwork quilts were published in The Patchworks of Lucy Boston (Colt Books 1995).  Five years’ work photographing the high, medieval stone-carvings in Norwich Cathedral’s vaulted ceilings culminated in her highly-acclaimed book with medieval historian Martial Rose, Stories in Stone (A&C Black 1997).
