Bambou Gili is known for her surreal, figurative oil paintings, which reference art historical compositions and employ atmospheric, nocturnal colour palettes. She presents reconfigured visions of contemporary life, friends and interiority via vivid palettes that suggest emotional weathers and shifting moods. Throughout her portraiture, the artist privileges tender observation.

Legally Stev (2024) features a close friend of the artist's in a position of rest, reclining whilst gazing into their phone in the window of a woodland. Gili uses a friend's photograph as a reference image. The blue, green and turquoise palette amplifies the painting's sense of serenity. Gili is interested in perceiving those close to her from a distance, in preserving quiet, intimate moments within a vibrant new context.
